Field Notes

Writing A rare find in my samples: a probable entoproct, a tiny aquatic animal with a cup-shaped body supported by a narrow stalk. Its crown of ciliated tentacles creates feeding currents that carry suspended food particles toward its mouth. Entoprocts resemble bryozoans but belong to a separate phylum, Entoprocta; their name means “anus inside,” referring to its position within the tentacle crown.
